Trolling wire works well to take baits to a desired depth. Most wirelines have a uniform sink rate (under normal conditions) therefore if the line is marked it is easy to drop to your desired depth. Repeatability is key when fishing with wire line. Marked trolling wire is generally marked with thin tape or epoxy. Traditional markings are every 100 feet. For every 100 feet out the wire will sink 10 feet.
